Junardi Armstrong is an eclectic artist and published writer who has worked and lived in Arizona most of her life. Her earliest years were inspired by observing the fine art of her grandmother Alice Ware Armstrong of Cape Cod MA. After a twenty-seven year career in education with an M.A. from the University of Arizona, Junardi began to focus on her own work as an artist.
Over the years, Junardi has studied with various international, national and local artists in workshops (Cheng Khee Chi, Timothy Clark, Josh Goldberg, Katherine Chang Liu etc.) and classes. She apprenticed with Juan Quesada of Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico in clay and learned basket weaving from Juanita Ahill, of the Tohono O’Odham Nation. Her works now include watercolor, handmade paper, artist’s books, mixed media, and photography.
Junardi’s work has been shown in various galleries and exhibits in Southern Arizona including: The Western Federation of Watercolor Societies annual juried exhibition, Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum’s “Fiesta Sonora”, The Ranch House Gallery, the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild’s Annual show, Details and Design Gallery, Tohono Chul Museum Gallery, Otero Gallery in Tubac, AZ, among others. She is a juried member of PaperWorks; the Sonoran Collective of Paper and Book Artists and the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild. She is a former member of Paper Portals collaborative whose work “Portals on Camino de Oeste” won “ the best collaborative book” in “Bound and Unbound”, the 2005 Tohono Chul paper arts show. Two of her artist’s books are in the rare books special collections library at the University of Arizona. The Tucson Home Magazine featured her in there “3 in 1” article of the fall 2007 issue. A solo exhibition of her work called “Eclectic Expressions” was held at the Ranch House Gallery of Agua Caliente Park in Tucson in 2008.
